This walk takes you back to a time when calculations were still being made in Roman Numerals, before buttons arrived to influence fashion and when branding and amputation were considered justice
Evoke Guildford's finest hour with a visit to the castle enlarged by the Plantagenets from its Norman origins and learn how it was surrendered to the French army. Visit the Undercroft to learn about working in Guildford and how the town became a hub for the wool trade. And learn about high finance with the Undercroft Merchant, dressed in "Guildford Blue". Visualise those brought before the judge at the Assizes in the Guildhall. Understand why a friary was built by Eleanor of Provence in memory of her dead grandson, and find out where medieval Guildfordians shopped and visit St. Mary's to see where they prayed.
Available to groups or as part of the Guildford Festival.
